Questions to consider for your NPS survey

The template covers the essentials. Use these as ideas when you edit it: keep the ones that fit your purpose and add any details your process needs.

  • What’s the main reason for your score?
  • Which feature or service do you value most?
  • What almost stopped you from buying?
  • How long have you been a customer?
  • Would you be happy to leave a public review?

How to use the responses

Calculate your NPS by subtracting the percentage of detractors (0–6) from the percentage of promoters (9–10). Then read the comments: reach out to detractors personally within a few days, and ask promoters for a review or referral while they’re happy.

Why the follow-up matters more than the score

An NPS number tells you whether loyalty is going up or down. It doesn’t tell you why. The template uses logic to ask unhappy customers what could be better and happy customers what they loved, so every response is actionable.

Send NPS surveys at a consistent moment, such as 30 days after purchase or every quarter, so scores are comparable over time. Keep the survey to two or three questions to protect your response rate.

Frequently asked questions

What is an NPS survey?

A Net Promoter Score survey asks customers how likely they are to recommend you on a 0–10 scale. It’s a simple, widely used measure of customer loyalty.

How do I calculate NPS?

Subtract the percentage of detractors (scores 0–6) from the percentage of promoters (scores 9–10). The result ranges from −100 to 100.

What’s a good NPS score?

Anything above 0 means you have more promoters than detractors. Above 30 is generally good and above 50 excellent, though it varies by industry.

When should I send an NPS survey?

After customers have had time to experience your product, for example 30 days after purchase, and then at regular intervals such as every quarter.

Is this NPS template free?
