How to pick a random giveaway winner
To pick a random giveaway winner, put every eligible entry in one list, remove duplicate entries, then let a random winner picker draw the number of winners you need. With this free tool that takes four steps and under a minute, and nothing leaves your browser.
Paste names, emails or usernames one per line, or open a CSV exported from your form or spreadsheet.
Keep it on for one chance per person. Turn it off if extra entries were part of your rules.
Choose how many winners you need, plus backup winners in case someone doesn't reply.
Press Draw winners, then copy the list or download a CSV record of the draw.
Is this random winner picker fair?
Yes. Every pick uses your browser's Web Crypto random number generator with rejection sampling, so each entry in the pool has exactly the same chance. When someone is picked, all of their entries leave the pool, so no one can win twice and alternates never repeat a winner.
A quick example: the list “Maya, Leo, Maya, Ravi” has four entries but three entrants. With duplicates removed, each person has a 1 in 3 chance. With duplicates kept, Maya has a 2 in 4 chance on the first pick, and once she wins, both of her entries are gone.
What you can use the giveaway picker for
| Giveaway type | What to add | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram, TikTok or YouTube giveaway | Paste the usernames of everyone who commented | Keep the @ on every handle and leave out comments that break your rules |
| Raffle or prize draw | Paste one line per ticket sold | Turn duplicates off so someone with five tickets gets five chances |
| Contest or sweepstakes form | Open the CSV export of your entry form | Pick the email column so two people with the same name stay apart |
| Email list or newsletter giveaway | Paste or open your subscriber emails | Remove unsubscribed or test addresses before the draw |
| Team, event or classroom prize | Paste the names of everyone in the room | Draw one winner at a time on screen, so everyone sees it live |
Giveaway picker vs. spinner wheel vs. spreadsheet
| Method | Randomness | Duplicates | Several winners | Record of the draw |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| This giveaway picker | Web Crypto, unbiased | Removed automatically | Up to 100, no repeats | Copy or CSV |
| Spinner wheel | Random, but hard to check | Removed by hand | Spin again and delete | Screen recording |
| Spreadsheet RAND() | Fine, changes on every edit | UNIQUE() formula | Sort and take the top rows | Copy the rows |
| Names from a hat | Hard to prove online | Checked by hand | Draw again | Photo or video |
Six rules for a fair giveaway draw
- Publish the rules before entries open. Say who can enter, how many entries each person gets, the closing date and how the winner is chosen.
- Close entries before you draw. Export the final list after the deadline so late entries can't slip in.
- Check eligibility first. Remove entries that break your rules (wrong country, under age, staff) before loading the list. The picker doesn't check them for you.
- Draw alternates in the same go. If a winner doesn't reply in time, move to the next alternate in order instead of drawing again.
- Keep a record. Download the CSV or screen-record the draw, and share the result with your audience to build trust.
- Follow your platform's and country's rules. Instagram, TikTok and many countries have their own promotion rules, such as no purchase necessary. Check them before you launch.
Giveaway Picker questions
How do I pick a random winner for a giveaway?
Paste every eligible entry into the giveaway picker, one per line, or open a CSV of your entries. Leave Remove duplicate entries on, set how many winners and alternates you need, and press Draw winners. The tool picks them at random in your browser.
Is this giveaway picker free?
Yes. The Tapzy giveaway picker is 100% free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many draws you run.
Is the random winner picker really random and fair?
Yes. Each pick uses the Web Crypto random number generator built into your browser, with rejection sampling to remove bias, so every entry in the pool has an equal chance. Once someone wins, all of their entries leave the pool.
Can I pick multiple winners at once?
Yes. Choose up to 100 picks in total, split between winners and alternates. Every person can win only once, so the list never repeats a name.
What is an alternate winner in a giveaway?
An alternate is a backup winner drawn after the main winners, in order. If a winner doesn't reply or isn't eligible, you give the prize to the first alternate instead of running a new draw.
Are duplicate entries removed?
By default, yes: one chance per entrant. Duplicates ignore capital letters, extra spaces and equivalent Unicode characters. Turn it off for raffles where extra tickets mean extra chances; a person still wins only once.
How do I pick a random winner from Excel or Google Sheets?
Save or download the sheet as a CSV file, open it in the giveaway picker and choose the column that identifies each person, such as email. You can also copy a single column from the sheet and paste it in.
Can I use it as a raffle picker or contest winner picker?
Yes. Paste one line per raffle ticket, or open the CSV export of your contest entry form, and draw as many winners as you have prizes.
Can it pick an Instagram, TikTok or YouTube comment winner?
Not directly, because the tool does not connect to social media accounts. Copy the usernames of everyone who commented, paste them one per line, and draw from that list.
Are my entries uploaded or saved?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded to Tapzy. The list stays on the page until you reset or leave, so copy or download your results before closing.
