Typeform, Google Forms and Tally all have a free plan, and all three look generous until you hit the limit that matters for your form. This guide compares only the free plans, so you can tell which one will carry your form without an upgrade.
The short answer
- Most responses for free: Google Forms and Tally (Tally within fair use).
- Most features for free: Tally: logic, calculations, payments and signatures.
- Best one-question-at-a-time feel: Typeform, but only 10 responses a month for free.
- Simplest for a Google Workspace team: Google Forms.

Google Forms free: enough for internal surveys
Free with any Google account, with no response cap and answers straight into Google Sheets. It can require a Google sign-in, which keeps out anonymous spam and lets you limit people to one response.
Where it runs out: no payment field, logic only by jumping between sections, a basic look, and nothing to stop spam on a public form except asking people to sign in. If spam is your problem, see how to stop spam on Google Forms.
Typeform free: enough for a test, not a campaign
Typeform's one-question-at-a-time forms are the most polished of the three. The free plan is capped at 10 responses a month, so it suits trying Typeform out or a tiny internal poll. Basic ($39/month, or $28 billed yearly) raises it to 100 responses and lists conditional logic; removing Typeform branding takes Plus ($79/month).
Tally free: the most generous for public forms
Tally's free plan includes unlimited forms and submissions within fair use, plus conditional logic, calculations, payments and signatures. That covers most public forms. Uploaded files are limited to 10 MB each on the free plan.
Where it runs out: Tally branding stays until Pro ($29/month), partial responses are on Pro, and verifying respondents' email addresses takes Business ($89/month). There are no SMS or WhatsApp codes on any plan.
Which free plan is enough for you?
| Your form | Enough on free | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Team survey, everyone on Google Workspace | Google Forms | Free, sign-in, answers in Sheets |
| Public contact or feedback form | Tally or Google Forms | No response cap; Tally adds logic and a better look |
| Order or registration with payment | Tally | Payments are on its free plan |
| A quiz or survey with logic and scores | Tally | Logic and calculations are free |
| Fewer than 10 responses a month, best design | Typeform | The free cap won't bite |
| Leads where fake numbers or spam cost you | None of the three | No free code verification; spam tools are basic |
A fourth option: when spam and fake answers are the problem
Tapzy's free plan has unlimited forms and responses, logic and calculations, invisible bot protection and a spam filter, Google Sheets, Google Drive and webhooks, signatures and file uploads up to 4 MB, and Calendly or Cal.com scheduling. Pro ($19/month) adds email, WhatsApp and SMS code verification, partial responses, payments and removing Tapzy branding.
To be fair to Tally: if you need payments on a free plan, Tally has them and Tapzy doesn't. Tapzy is the better fit when the problem is who is answering: spam, bots, fake numbers. See the side-by-sides for Tally vs Typeform, Typeform vs Google Forms and Tally vs Google Forms.
